Blackjack Hand Ranks
Blackjack hand ranks aren’t quite the same as say poker hand rankings. For example, in blackjack, you’re only playing against the dealer, and not against the other players, so your blackjack hand ranks are only compared to those of the dealer, unless you’re playing one of the new online blackjack variants like Hold’em Blackjack.
The important thing to realize is that if the dealer has blackjack – that is an ace and a card worth 10, you don’t win, even if you also have blackjack. A situation like that is called a “push” and it’s one of the main frustrations for blackjack players.
There are other things that you can do to increase the value of your blackjack hand ranks. For example, you can double down. Doubling down is usually only a good idea if you have cards totaling eleven. When you double down, you can double your bet, but you can only draw one more card. Since there are more cards with a value of ten in the deck than with any other value, doubling down on an eleven is often considered a good move.

You can also split your cards if your first two cards are the same as each other and you haven’t drawn any more cards. This can increase your winnings as well, since you can then double your bet and play each of the first two cards as a hand of its own. Of course, it’s important to check what the dealer has when you make your decision. While one blackjack hand ranks higher than all others, and that is the actual blackjack, it’s important to realize that there are plenty of other hands that can win over a dealer’s hand, especially if the dealer busts – goes over twenty-one. If the dealer busts, then any player who hasn’t busted is a winner, so you can win big if the dealer busts. Unfortunately, the dealer has rules which make him unlikely to bust, so you shouldn’t count on beating the dealer unless you have a hand worth 18 or above.
